Cuttack: The SCB Medical College and Hospital has reopened its dedicated Covid hospital as the COVID-19 cases are spiking rapidly in the state.

The Designated Covid Hospital (DCH) under the SCB hospital, is a dedicated covid unit for the infected patients to get treatment. SCB hospital reopened units 4 as well as units 3 of DCH on Friday.

The DCH has installed 5 beds in Unit 3 in Obstetrics and Gynaecology department in case a pregnant woman gets infected and needs immediate treatment. If any pregnant patient gets infected, she will be then transferred to the DCH unit 3. Similarly, 15 beds have been arranged in DCH unit 4 located inside the Pulmonary Medicine (TB & Chest) department.

SCB hospital Administrative Officer Abinash Rout told TNIE, "In the first phase, we have arranged 20 beds in the two DCH to meet the emergency. If necessary, the bed strength will be enhanced and if the situation demands, DCH 1 and 2 will be made operational. Any Covid infected patient needing hospitalisation will be admitted to DCH unit 4 for receiving treatment."

Also on VISMAR, COVID hospital-I has reopened with 10 beds to accommodate possible cases that may surge. There are currently 5 active cases in Sambalpur.

The Health and Family Welfare Department issued an order on June 17 stating that "Whereas there is a declining trend of COVID positive cases in the state, districts and medical colleges will follow the guidelines issued on March 29 and reduce manpower accordingly." The following order has left the health experts in confusion.

Due to a lack of infrastructure, Sishu Bhawan has not yet been able to begin the process of creating a centre of excellence in order to face the covid situation.

Sishu Bhawan Superintendent Prof Jnanindra Nath Behera said "The NICUs, HDUs have been kept ready in the existing medical ward 3 which has been temporarily developed and converted into a centre of excellence to treat Covid infected children and will be made operational whenever necessitated."

The state government has instructed all the districts to start COVID-19 testing again in all health facilities and RT-PCR swab collection in all CHCs.
