Family protests at Meerut Hospital over alleged medical negligence

Meerut: A protest erupted on Monday at Mimhans Neuro Hospital in the Medical Police Station area, Meerut after the family of a female patient alleged medical negligence in her treatment. Police reached the spot and brought the situation under control after persuading the agitating relatives. 

The patient, a resident of Begumbagh under the Nauchandi police station area, was admitted to the hospital on June 9 in a critical state after suffering a brain haemorrhage. According to her family, she remains in critical condition despite nearly Rs 9–10 lakh being spent on her treatment so far.

The family alleged that despite the heavy expenditure, there has been no significant recovery, leading to growing frustration and tension, which eventually escalated into a protest inside the hospital premises.

Upon learning about the incident, Chaudhary Charan Singh University student leader Vineet Chaprana also reached the hospital. He spoke with the family members and listened to their complaints. He also spoke with the hospital management and assured them that the complaints of the patients and their families would not be ignored. He further assured them that the matter would be raised with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and senior officials of the Health Department if necessary, according to Dainik Bhaskar.

Medical police personnel were called to the hospital following reports of the disturbance. After speaking with the patient's family and hospital authorities and assuring a fair inquiry, the officers succeeded in restoring the situation under control. 

The hospital management has rejected the allegations of negligence, calling them baseless. The hospital manager stated that the patient was admitted in a highly critical condition and that the family has been regularly informed about her medical status since admission.

He added that the patient is under continuous treatment and supervision of specialist doctors and denied any lapse in care. The management further alleged that the protest was staged without justification, despite ongoing medical efforts.

At the same time, the woman's brother-in-law alleges that the doctor has taken Rs 10 lakh from him. At present, after the uproar, the doctor has said that his sister-in-law's condition is serious and has talked about the need for treatment, reports Dainik Bhaskar.
