Darbhanga: Darbhanga Police have registered an FIR after a video purportedly showing people consuming alcohol inside the emergency building of Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), Bihar, went viral on social media, prompting an inquiry into the incident.

The footage circulating on social media appears to show six people gathered near a staircase, with four allegedly consuming alcohol. Two women are seen sitting with snacks and cold drinks, while another stands nearby. Three men subsequently enter the frame, and one of them appears to hand over a packet containing alcohol.

The video has also raised questions about the timing of the alleged incident. Although the date of June 9, 2026, is visible in the video, the hospital’s security in-charge reportedly described it as old. The actual recording date and authenticity have yet to be conclusively established.

The footage captures six people in total, although only four appear to be drinking. One of the men seen in the video is wearing a lanyard bearing the DMCH name, suggesting a possible connection with the hospital. However, the identities of those involved, their designations and their employment status have not yet been established, India Today reported.

Taking cognisance of the video, Darbhanga’s senior superintendent of police directed the Benta police station to investigate. Police have registered a case and are seeking the complete CCTV footage to establish how many people were involved and identify those seen in the recording.

A senior police officer confirmed that the investigation was underway and said further legal action would depend on the findings.

DMCH authorities have also said they would examine the footage and verify the location and identities of those involved. The hospital superintendent informed the police after learning about the alleged incident, while the district administration has also sought details from the hospital.

The incident has raised concerns about security and discipline within the government-run institution. The investigation is expected to establish when the alleged drinking took place and whether the people involved were on hospital duty at the time.
