2 doctors served show-cause notices over alleged liquor party at Pune's YCM Hospital

Pimpri: YCM Hospital in Pimpri, Pune, has come under scrutiny after a viral video allegedly showing a liquor party inside its post-mortem department surfaced online, prompting the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) administration to launch an investigation. The hospital administration has issued notices to two medical officers.
The video reportedly shows liquor bottles, drinks, snacks, and food plates placed on a post-mortem table, while an individual appears to be fast asleep on a nearby sofa.
The incident came to light when a person who had been waiting overnight to collect a death certificate recorded the video while attempting to wake up medical personnel who appeared to be in a stupor. The person can be heard pleading with the sleeping official after waiting for several hours to obtain the document.
According to IANS, the hospital administration has issued notices to two medical officers and formed a three-member committee to investigate the incident and recommend further action.

Speaking to the Indian Express, Maruti Gaikwad, acting dean of YCM Hospital and Medical College, said, “The video has come to us…We are looking into it. We will investigate the matter and take appropriate action.” Dr Gaikwad noted he took temporary charge recently while regular dean Dr Rajendra Wable recovers from a medical procedure. “I am actually not aware of the medical officer who is seen sleeping on the sofa. I have taken the charge temporarily just a few days back. But we will investigate the matter and find out what has actually happened,” he said.
The investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident and whether any hospital staff members violated their duties or workplace rules. No findings or disciplinary action had been announced in the information available.
YCM Hospital, operated by the PCMC, is one of the major public healthcare facilities in Pune district, with a capacity of 750 beds. It caters to patients from Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune city and neighbouring talukas, including Maval, Mulshi, Khed, Ambegaon and Junnar.
The controversy comes shortly after another incident at YCM Hospital raised concerns about patient safety during an inter-hospital transfer.
