New Delhi: The state-run Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital has made special medical arrangements for Diwali, including additional beds, emergency operation theatre facilities and a dedicated roster of doctors, to handle burn injuries and other emergencies during the festival.

According to a press release issued on Wednesday, the hospital receives around 160 to 200 patients with Diwali-related injuries every year, with burn injuries accounting for most of the cases.

According to PTI, a special duty roster has been prepared to ensure adequate availability of doctors from all relevant specialities, particularly the departments of burns and plastic surgery and ophthalmology, to manage burn injuries and other emergencies.

Additionally, the hospital has also designated 25 additional beds at the emergency and accident department of Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital (RGSSH) for any eventuality during Diwali.

These beds are in addition to the 30 regular beds in the burns and plastic surgery department at the GTB Hospital’s main facility, as well as beds available in other departments, including ophthalmology, ENT, surgery, neurosurgery, orthopaedics and medicine.

Adequate stocks of medicines and consumables have also been maintained at the emergency department and the hospital to ensure timely treatment of patients.

The hospital said its disaster management plan was in place to deal with any emergency or large-scale incident during the festival.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the proposed merger of four major government hospitals in east Delhi into a single autonomous, multispeciality institution modelled on the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has received a major boost, with Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu approving the integration plan, Health Minister Pankaj Singh said on Thursday. The proposed institution will bring together Guru Tegh Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, Delhi State Cancer Institute (DSCI), Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital (RGSSH) and the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS) under a unified administrative structure.
