According to Free Press Journal, Minister Tulsi Silawat said, “This investment will significantly strengthen healthcare services in Indore and will be a milestone in the medical sector. MY Hospital is not just a medical facility for Indore but also a crucial center for patients across the Malwa region.”

The redevelopment plans are aimed at modernizing the hospital's infrastructure and improving facilities for both patients and healthcare professionals. One of the key features of the redevelopment is the construction of two multi-level parking facilities within the hospital premises to alleviate the ongoing parking problems.

Additionally, a new 300-bed hostel will be developed near the Government Nursing College on the MYH campus.

MY Hospital has a rich history, established 75 years ago by Maharaja Yeshwantrao Holkar. Originally conceived in 1937, the construction of the hospital was delayed due to the outbreak of World War II. However, the project eventually began in 1950 and was completed in 1956 with an initial capacity of 720 beds. At the time, the total construction cost was Rs 65.55 lakh, a significant amount considering the era.

Despite its historical significance and continued importance in the region, the hospital has faced the need for modernization.

MYH, which currently operates with 1,152 beds and serves approximately 4,000 patients daily, has been facing persistent infrastructure challenges. These include issues like water seepage, which has hindered the smooth functioning of the hospital and created an urgent need for renovation. Despite the planned expansion, the existing MY Hospital building will continue to operate.

According to Free Press Journal, officials disclosed that the Building Development Corporation (BDC) and hospital planners were to present the project proposal to the chief secretary but were unable to do so due to scheduling constraints.
