Kolkata: Belle Vue Clinic introduces Cuvis Active Robotic knee replacement surgery
Kolkata: Belle Vue Clinic —one of the oldest and premier medical care institution in Kolkata has introduced Cuvis Active robotic joint replacement surgery that includes knee and hip replacement.
Cuvis Joint Robotic System is the most advanced surgical cutting-edge robotic technology supporting surgeons with Personalised Preplanning and Precise Cutting for predictable and consistent results. It builds a 3D model of the patient's knee and with that as a guide, the surgeon uses the robot to make accurate bone cuts and insert the knee components precisely.
It is made up of three key components: the Main Console, the Robotic Arm, and the Planning Device. The Main Console with Optical Tracking System (OTS) aids in real-time monitoring and directs the surgeon through the procedure. The majority of the bone cutting is done by a robotic arm with a milling tool positioned on its tip. It minimizes tissue injury and decreases blood loss and postoperative pain significantly.

Belle Vue Clinic, CEO, Pradeep Tandon told TOI, "The Active Automatic Robotic joint replacement unit at Belle Vue Clinic, under the leadership of Dr Santosh Kumar, has pioneered the Orthopilot Navigation system for knee replacement, in 2013. The present system is a generational improvement over Orthopilot as the Cuvis Joint Robotic System is the most advanced surgical cutting edge robotic technology, supporting surgeons with personalized planning and precise cutting for predictable and consistent results."
An autonomous nature of passive robotic joint replacement systems is the least with maximum human interference, which then gradually increases to active systems. Active robotic joint replacement systems which are said to be the most advanced amongst their peers are completely autonomous in nature with the least human interference required.
"This system ensures zero human and manual errors by its real-time monitoring and feedback mechanisms, it ensures sub-millimetric precision whereas human eyes cannot distinguish two points closer than a millimetre, customized alignment with ultra-high precision," said Dr Kumar Cuvis.
