Odisha: Govt to set up solar rooftop plants at 32 District headquarters hospitals,7 Medical colleges

Bhubaneshwar: The Odisha government is planning to implement a project to set up grid-connected solar rooftop power plants at seven medical colleges and 32 district headquarters hospitals (DHHs) in the state. 

The government is implementing the project under the renewable energy service company (RESCO) programme of the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA).

The seven medical colleges where the solar rooftop plants are being planned to be set up include SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur, Vimsar, Burla, Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital, Balasore, and SLN Medical College and Hospital, Koraput.

The director of health services (DHS) and director of medical education and training (DMET) have been directed by the Health and family welfare department to produce consolidated building-wise details to finalise the solar capacity that is required for them to participate in the programme for the development of grid-connected solar rooftop power plants, reports the Times of India.

The proposed scheme of RESCO is called SuBaH (Suns Blessings and Health) under which rooftop solar projects would be established to not only provide green power to the health institutions but also reduce expenditure on electricity purchases. 

An official order to the health department reads, "OREDA is planning to invite bids under RESCO mode for the selection of solar power developers. We are presently assessing the site-wise feasible capacity for different buildings based on the available roof area, electricity consumption pattern and regulatory provisions to facilitate the bidders." 

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that the SELCO Foundation in collaboration with the Directorate of Health Services has solarised 68 Health Centres across the three districts in Manipur and provided them with energy-efficient equipment, including a Radiant Warmer, Suction Apparatus, Spotlight, Solar Direct Drive Vaccine Refrigerator and luminaries. The project is one of the 100 Action Points for 100 days of the State Government.
