Rs 12.63 crore PMCH procurement scam: ED files supplementary chargesheet

The ED initiated its investigation based on an FIR and chargesheet filed by the Vigilance Investigation Bureau, Patna, against the then Superintendent of PMCH and others under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act, reports UNI.

According to the ED officials, its investigation under the PMLA revealed that during 2008–09 and 2009–10, PMCH officials, in alleged connivance with various suppliers, procured medicines, chemical reagents, machines and medical equipment at prices higher than those prescribed by the State Health Society and the State Drug Controller, and in quantities far exceeding the actual requirement. The alleged irregularities caused an estimated loss of Rs 12.63 crore to the government exchequer.

Earlier in the case, the ED had attached movable and immovable properties worth approximately Rs 3.14 crore belonging to the accused, alleging that they represented proceeds of crime. A prosecution complaint was subsequently filed before the Special PMLA Court in Patna, where the trial is currently underway.

The ED said it had identified additional proceeds of crime amounting to worth Rs 3.01 crore, allegedly accrued by suppliers through the inflated procurement. These assets were provisionally attached on May 7, 2025, and the attachment was later confirmed by the Adjudicating Authority under the PMLA.

The agency said the supplementary prosecution complaint, filed on July 6, 2026, seeks confiscation of the attached properties.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
