COVID martyrs: NBE honours 2 DNB doctors who died during COVID service
New Delhi: On its Foundation day, the National Board of Examinations recently remembered two martyrs, the DNB doctors who died of COVID-19.
The National Board of examinations in medical sciences (NBEMS) celebrated its Foundation Day on the first of March, 2021. The NBEMS was established in the year 1982. Shri Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Honourable Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Government of India was the chief guest on the occasion.

Reciting Hindi poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar and quoting shlokas from the Bhagavad Gita, Shri Chowbey reminded everyone of the fruits of hard work, which always bear results over a period of time. Addressing the families of the COVID warriors and martyrs who were felicitated on the occasion, he praised about their contribution in the management of COVID-19 patients across the country. And remarked that the nation pays their homage to the sacrifice of the Braveheart doctors who led the supreme sacrifice.
While attending to COVID-19 patients, two doctors who lost their lives as trainee surgeons - namely, Dr. Nitish Kumar, a student of DrNB CT surgery, and Dr Priya Shree, a student of DNB General surgery were remembered. Their families were awarded a citation and momento in memory of the supreme sacrifice laid down by the COVID martyred doctors. The entire audience, and the dignitaries on the Dais had their eyes wet with tears, when the families of the COVID martyrs came to receive the honour.
Dr. Abhijat Sheth, President, National Board of examinations welcomed all in attendance that included all the staff members and retired employees. He congratulated them for contributing to the success of the national board over the 4 decades journey and bringing it glory to reach the present. On the occasion the retired employees, the serving staff and officers of the National Board of examinations, were felicitated.
Mrs Preeti Sudan, former Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India who led the battle against Covid-19 framing crucial government policies complimented the doctors of the national board, who valiantly fought and served the nation to overcome this pandemic.
Shri Rajesh Bhushan Secretary, Health Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, while congratulating the staff and employees of the board highlighted the contribution of the National Board of examinations in medical sciences in increasing the postgraduate seats in the last five years to reach and cross the number of 10,000. And for the diploma courses newly started this year in eight specialties.
Also, on the occasion of the foundation day, Sardar Vallabh bhai Patel awards were awarded to senior governing body members, and to Mrs Preeti Sudan for their outstanding distinguished services to the nation, and their contribution to the National Board of examination in medical sciences.
Delivering the vote of tanks. Dr. Pawanindra Lal, Executive Director of the National Board of examinations in medical sciences, thanked all the dignitaries, for having spared their valuable time and mentioned that this foundation day would serve as a resolve for the staff to dedicate themselves to the institution in the service of the nation, and take it to further heights.
