Tripura medical colleges recognize for National Tuberculosis Eradication Program excellence in Northeast

Agartala: The medical colleges in Tripura have performed exceptionally well in the National Tuberculosis Eradication Program and have emerged as the top state in the fight against the disease in the northeast region, reveals the information revealed by the Zonal Task Force conference in Guwahati. 

During the conference in Guwahati, the performances of the government and private medical colleges were carefully evaluated across numerous indicators of the National Tuberculosis Eradication Programme, in which Tripura emerged as the frontrunner.

In their tweet, the National Tuberculosis Eradication Programme, according to a media report in the Sentinel Assam, said, "Tripura is declared as the top State in NE Zone for the performance 2022 of Medical Colleges in NTEP. The STF members attended the ZTF meeting, Guwahati. Sincere gratitude to the State Authority, CTD, Faculty members of Medical colleges, NTEP Team, WHO & DPs @PMOIndia." 

The study found that the Agartala Government Medical College, GB Pant Hospital, and Tripura Medical College were ahead in five key areas of the National Tuberculosis Eradication Program in 2022. 

The five key areas were the number of TB patients enrolled in medical colleges compared to the total enrolled TB patients in the state, the number of TB patients enrolled in medical colleges compared to the total enrolled children TB patients in the state, the number of TB patients enrolled in medical colleges compared to the total enrolled children TB patients in the state, excluding lungs, CBINAT training under the National Tuberculosis Eradication Program for machine-based tuberculosis testing, and the detection of diabetes and HIV disease among tuberculosis patients in the state. 

The conference in Guwahati, according to a media report in India Today, saw the presence of medical professionals and experts, including Dr Tapan Majumder, Professor of Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital and Specialist in Microbiology, Dr Shib Shekhar Dutta from Tripura Medical College, and Dr Nupur Debbarma, the State Officer of the National Tuberculosis Eradication Program, representatives from the World Health Organization, including Dr Sanjib Jha, Consultant of the organization. 

The Health and Family Welfare Department states, "More than 4894 cases of TB patients' data have already been uploaded to the Nikshay software site since it was launched in Tripura." It further noted, "In various Sub Centres around Tripura, 372 coloured tinplates for the DOTS Centre have been issued. In Tripura, 68 health institutes have appealing wall writing installed. During the 2013–2014 FY, a significant number of schools were covered, community meetings and patient–provider meetings were held to raise awareness of TB, and on top of that, participants in 02 Melas."
