No reimbursement for government officials and employees who seek treatment at private hospitals
Allahabad: In a judgement that is indeed to have an everlasting impact on the healthcare services in the state, Allahabad high court has directed an order on Friday which states that all government officials and employees who received salary or other financial gains from the government/public exchequer should avail treatment of themselves and their families at government hospitals.
Adding that no one should be given VIP treatment, the court said such government officials and employees who received salary or other financial gains from the government/public exchequer and who get treatment in private hospitals should not be reimbursed for the treatment expenses by the government treasury. However, there will be no constraint on those facilities which are not available at government hospitals, the court added.
TOI reports that after hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by one Sneh Lata Singh alleging pathetic condition in government hospitals in the state, a division bench comprising of Justice Sudhir Agrawal and Justice Ajit Kumara passed the above directives after hearing all sides. The court also directed for immediate steps to fill up vacancies of medical, paramedical and other attending staff in government hospitals.
Moreover, the Court directed to form a vigilance team to curb on private practice of government doctors and regular audits of government hospitals through Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG). Court has instructed Chief Justice to implement the instructions and submit the progress report on September 25, 2018, as per a recent report in UNI.
HT recently reported that the court has issued a show-cause notice to Principal Secretary Medical Education Rajneesh Dubey, Motilal Nehru Medical College, Allahabad, Dr. S.P. Singh, for filing a false affidavit, in this case, asking why action not be initiated against them for filing false affidavit.
Moreover, the court directed the Chief Secretary to supervise the compliance of the directions given by the court in this case, the daily added.
