AP: Govt releases Rs 2050 crore for medical college construction in each parliamentary constituency

The Health Minister, along with Revenue minister Dharmana Krishna Das, Tribal Welfare Minister P Pushpa Srivani, and Fisheries minister Dr.Appala Raju inspected the site for the construction of a super-specialty hospital at Palakonda village in Araku Parliamentary constituency on Monday.

"Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has decided to upgrade the existing government general hospital in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts as super-specialty hospitals in order to provide better medical treatment to the tribal people. All precautionary measures were being taken to check the outbreak of seasonal diseases at the tribal tandas in the ITDA limits in Sitampet and Parvatipuram divisions", he said.

The government is constructing a medical college in Paderu in Visakhapatnam district for which Rs.500 crore was allocated, Srinivas said.

Alleging that the medical sector in the state was neglected during the erstwhile Telugu Desam Party government regime, the Minister said that the present government is giving top priority for the medical sector and to provide medical treatment to the poor.

The government aimed to construct 16 new teaching hospitals. As of now, there are 11 teaching hospitals in the state and if the construction of 16 new teaching hospitals is completed, 27 teaching hospitals would be available, he informed.

Stating that the government has taken effective steps to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, he said that the Chief Minister ordered the district Collectors to allot a bed to the COVID patients within half-an-hour of their arrival to the hospital, Srinivas said.

The Health Minister said that 17,000 doctors and nursing staff were being recruited on a contract basis to provide medical treatment in COVID hospitals in all the districts.
