Deadline Set: Darbhanga Medical College told to vacate land allotted for proposed AIIMS

Darbhanga: Authorities have been directed to vacate existing structures on the parcel of land allotted for the proposed AIl India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) within the premises of Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) latest by June 15 for undertaking important earth filing work. The directions were issued by the Darbhanga District Magistrate, Rajiv Raushan in a meeting held with the concerned officials in the Darbhanga Medical College Hospital auditorium.  

As per a media report in the Hindustan Times, the DM asked the DMCH principal to vacate the old college building, while shifting the physiology, anatomy, and biochemistry departments from there in the process, said the district public relations officer (DPRO) N K Gupta.

As per a media report in the Fresh Google News, other concerned departments including Public Health Engineering Organisation, Electricity Department, Mechanical Department were also directed to shift their infrastructure and make available the structure situated on AIIMS land latest by 15th June. 

The union cabinet had given the approval for constructing the second AIIMS in the Darbhanga region of Bihar on September 15 at an estimated cost of 1.264 crores on September 1. The facility is said to be a 750-bed facility that is targeted to be built within a period of 48 months. 

The Bihar state government has also permitted the transfer of 200 acres of land on the premises of DMCH in November 2021 for this purpose. 

The Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, had announced during an earlier Darbhanga visit in December last year that only 150 acres of land would be allotted to AIIMS whereas the remaining 77 acres would be retained for the expansion of DMCH, which has got a total of 227 acres land in its possession. 

An official told HT, "The state government has begun spade work for transfer of encumbrance-free land to Centre for the proposed AIIMS at Darbhanga. In the first phase, earth filing work has started to level the ground in 70 acres."

The DMCH principal Dr. K N Mishra said that it would be difficult to shift three departments from the proposed site of AIIMS until an alternative arrangement is made for the same. He observed, "We have already proposed the health department to construct a pre-fabricated building so that anatomy, physiology and biochemistry departments, running in old college building, could be shifted."

The District Magistrate along with Deputy Development Commissioner and senior officials are reported to have inspected the earth filling work in AIIMS land on the railway line after the meeting. The Deputy Development Commissioner Tanay Sultania, Principal DMCH, Additional Collector (Revenue) Vibhuti Ranjan ChoudhFGN, Additional Collector (Departmental Inquiry)-cum-Municipal Commissioner Akhilesh Prasad Singh, Sub-Divisional Officer Sadar Sparsh Gupta, Deputy Collector of Land Reforms, Sadar Mohd. Sadul Hasan and officers of all concerned departments were present in the meeting.
