Goa Health Minister applauds, felicitates GMC doctors, nurses for services during COVID pandemic

Panaji: Over 2,000 doctors, nurses, para-medical staff and medical front line workers attached to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) were felicitated for their exemplary services during the COVID pandemic on Saturday.

Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, BJP MLA Tony Fernandes and St Andre MLA Francis Silveira felicitated the workers and thanked them for the commendable service provided to the citizens during COVID crisis.

Mr Rane, while addressing the gathering, applauded the dedicated work done by the health workers during pandemic period and complimented the team of Goa Medical College and Directorate of Health Services for their continuous efforts as regards to medication for the people seeking medical attention.

"We might do felicitations after felicitations but that will not compensate the kind of selfless efforts and hard work put in by the health workers and the front line warriors to fight back the pandemic...to save thousands of lives. With folded hand, I thank you all for the contribution and dedication," Mr Rane said.

He said as a Minister and a common man, he had a full faith and trust on the medical treatment provided at the GMC and efforts were on to introduce more specialized equipments and procedures, within period of next three months.

He recalled having no equipment to deal with Covid cases to having all the facilities and infrastructure in place to fight back the pandemic.

Mr Rane, speaking in presence of GMC Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar, said, ''The battle against pandemic is not over yet and that the COVID itself is a mystery."

"At a time when we all felt that Covid is over, we were hit hard by the second wave. And now even before we could come out of the second wave, we are hearing about Delta Plus variant. Know one knows what it is. But we need to be on alert," he said.

The Health Minister said Covid not only had its impact on health or economy but on the society overall.

He said Goa was the only state in the country that provided all treatment related to Covid free of cost.

St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes also thanked the medical fraternity for putting in all out efforts to save the lives of people.

He said it was not an easy task but the health workers fought with it with complete dedication.

Earlier speaking, GMC Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar appealed his medical colleagues to be prepared to face and fight back the third wave of Covid.
