Haryana: The State government has started taking initiatives to reopen the 500 bedded Faridabad Medical College and Hospital in Chhainsa village. The government has also launched a 30 Crores project in connection with the reconstruction of the medical college.

The College is expected to accept MBBS students from the next academic session.

Situated over 27 acres of land, the institution started a few years ago with 100 MBBS students in 2011. Previously the college was known as Gold Fields Institute of Medical Science and Research and it was a private medical college and but closed after 2015 due to financial problems.

The Medical Dialogue team reported Gold Fields Shiksha Sansthan, a body that owned this institution, failed to clear the debt taken from Union Bank, Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda, Bank of Maharashtra, Central Bank, and the Allahabad Bank. The amount of debt was estimated to be around Rs 235 crore. With the aim of recovery, the medical college had earlier been put by the banks for auction in 2018 but did not find suitable bidders probably due to high reservation prices. After that, it was taken over by the government in March through an auction where it was the only bidder.

The crisis struck the college in 2014 after the inspection of MCI as MCI denied its recognition over the issue of any adequate infrastructure and staff, as a result, the college has to face ban on fresh admission for two years after which it was subsequently closed.

The Tribune reports that after the institute was taken over by the government, it had been renamed as Government Medical College and Hospital and it has been turned into a COVID facility in July by the government.
Recently the Department of Medical Education and Research has released a tender of rupees 20 crores for providing manpower, sanitization, and security in September. The maintenance work of the college has already started under PWD and the college is most likely to open very soon. An outstanding bank loan of about rupees 235 crores has also been granted for the whole project.
Dr. Gulshan Arora the administrator of the college stated that the department has entrusted the maintenance work with PWD at an estimated cost of rupees 10 crores. He also informed that the infrastructure of the college will be built in a way so that from the coming session, the MBBS students might get admission.
After being functional it is going to be the second Government Medical College and Hospital in the district which will contribute significantly in improving the health care services of the locality, reports a daily.
