Hisar: A couple from Bihar was recently booked for allegedly cheating a Hisar-based man of Rs 30 lakh in the promise of an MBBS seat at Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical and Health College in Dehradun for his daughter.

The man alleged that the couple promised to get his daughter admitted to the college in exchange for money but despite paying the amount the MBBS seat was granted to his daughter. When he confronted the couple, they allegedly threatened to kill him.

Consequently, he approached the Hisar police to register a case against the accused couple and against their landlord as well who introduced him to the couple. A case has been registered against the couple under sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.

As per a recent media report in the Times of India, the accused, residents of the Nalanda district of Bihar were residing in Basant Vihar Enclave, Dehradun. The complainant on the other hand is a resident of Sector 15 in Hisar who along with one of his friends went to Dehradun to visit his other friend. The landlord of the accused couple was present there and he told him that a couple used to reside in his house on rent who have contact with the medical college and thus can help students get admission in MBBS courses.
Times of India reports that the complainant whose daughter also wanted to secure medical admission accompanied the landlord along with his friend to the couple's home where the couple allegedly promised him an MBBS seat for his daughter in Guru Ram Rai Institute of Uttarakhand in exchange for Rs 34 lakh.
The complainant, convinced by the words of the couple, paid the first instalment of Rs 10 lakh rupees and also submitted all the documents of his daughter from Hisar in February 2016. In September they again visited Dehradun and gave Rs 19 lakh and Rs 2 lakh more by borrowing from his friend. He also delivered the last instalment of Rs 3 lakh in Gurgaon in July 2016. Despite giving all the money when no initiative was taken by the duo to grant an MBBS seat as promised, the complainant sought a refund from the couple, reports the daily.
They returned Rs 4 lakh and gave a postdated cheque for the remaining amount but the check bounced. According to the daily, after waiting for a long time, in September 2019, the complainant along with his friends met the couple personally to resolve the issue however instead of returning the remaining amount, they threatened to kill him.
Thereafter, the complainant approached the police and registered a case of fraud against the couple and their landlord as well. Police have started an investigation, but no one has been arrested.
