Senior Faculty Member Questioned as Rohtak MBBS Scam Unfolds
Haryana- A senior faculty member has come under the scanner of the police in the MBBS exam scam that surfaced at Pandit BD Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak (UHSR). The professor of the non-clinical department has reportedly been summoned several times for questioning at the university campus.
The professor had worked as the centre superintendent at an examination centre marked for serious malpractices. At present, the professor in charge has been called for questioning. This is the first time a faculty member of UHSR has been questioned in connection with the scam.
This has raised concerns among faculty members, especially those who have previously served as exam centre superintendents. Many are worried that they, too, may be questioned if the investigation intensifies.
Speaking to the Tribune on this, a UHSR official said, “Faculty members from various departments are routinely appointed as centre in-charges or superintendents to ensure fair and orderly conduct of exams. However, the involvement of the police and the questioning of a professor has raised concerns among many others who have performed similar duties in the past.”
Meanwhile, confirming the development, the concerned professor in questioning said, “So far, I have been called for questioning on the university campus more than three times.”
The UHSR MBBS scam allegedly involved the smuggling of answer sheets during the annual and supplementary MBBS exams conducted by UHSR. Students allegedly rewrote their answers outside the campus, and later replaced them with the original answer sheets to obtain passing marks.
After the matter came to light, the police filed an FIR against 41 people, including 17 university employees and 24 MBBS students of a private college, in February. Three of these employees have been arrested and are currently in jail; they have also been fired from their jobs.
