Dr Sandeep Dogra takes charge as HoD Microbiology of GMC Jammu

Jammu: Professor (Dr) Sandeep Dogra has been appointed as the new Head of Department (HoD) of Microbiology of the Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu.
Before him, Dr Shashi S Sharma, Principal & Dean, GMC, Jammu served the additional HOD Microbiology charge.
Dr Dogra completed his MBBS from GMC Jammu and earned his MD in microbiology from the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Sevagram, Maharashtra. He won a coveted FAIMER Fellowship (FAIMER Foundation, Philadelphia) from CMC Ludhiana in 2013 and was recognised as an enthusiastic and accomplished researcher by the National Academy of Medical Sciences.
Later, the Department of Science and Technology, J&K, J&K State Council for Science and Technology, and the then Vice-President of India gave him the J&K Young Scientist Award for their groundbreaking collaborative research on tuberculosis which he undertook in collaboration with the Universities of California, Berkeley, and McGill University, Montreal, Canada. Later, he collaborated on numerous research initiatives with the TB Association of India, ICMR, MH166, NCDC, Delhi, CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, and IIT Jammu.
His project ventures include areas of tuberculosis, point-of-care diagnostics and anti-microbial drug resistance. With high-ranking research publications in JAMA, PLoS and Virology, he is on the editorial boards of many national and international research publications.
During COVID-19, he was given the responsibility to establish and operate the first COVID-19 RT-PCR sample collection center at the Isolation ward of GMCH, Jammu, and the second COVID-19 RT-PCR testing facility at the BSL-3 lab of CSIR-IIIM, Jammu and RAT testing center at Govt. Psychiatry Hospital, Jammu. He also operationalized ‘e-Sanjeevani’ Tele-consultation OPD services when the OPDs were closed during COVID, reports Daily Excelsior.
He handled many administrative responsibilities regarding COVID-19 Human Resource Engagement, Inventory Management of ICMR-VRDL, training programs with SDRF and IEC activities with DHS and NHM, Jammu.
