Rs 15,000 hike for Contractual MBBS doctors in Karnataka

Karnataka: Bringing good news to the contractual MBBS doctors in the state, the Karnataka government has hiked their salaries by Rs 15,000. The pay scale per month was earlier Rs 45,000 which has now been increased to ₹60000 per month.

According to the order issued to this effect, the Karnataka district health departments have secured permission from the Karnataka health department to appoint MBBS doctors on a contractual basis after consulting the concerned district health officers and commissioners along with increasing their salary.

Earlier in the day, Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu urged contract doctors to continue offering their services amid their demand for regularisation of services. The new MBBS doctors should be appointed after taking permission from district health officers. 

"I request the contract doctors with folded hands to continue offering their services. With regard to their two demands, one of salary hike and the other being permanency, I assure all of them that I stand with them and their requests will definitely be fulfilled," said Sriramulu. The Chief Minister had also discussed the two issues yesterday and agreed to facilitate the pay hike, he added, reports ANI.

At a time like this, when the health workers are offering their services day and night amidst the pandemic, this decision of the government to increase salary has been greatly appreciated. 

Previously, the doctors serving on a contractual basis demanded a hike in the salary. Considering their demand, the Health and family welfare department minister B Sriramulu requested the contractual doctors not to consider going on strike and assured them that their demands including the hike in remuneration have been considered. Karnataka has already reported its highest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases on Thursday with 1,502 new cases being recorded taking the total to 18,016 cases, which includes 272 deaths and 8,334 recoveries.
