Irregularities in affiliation: MP Govt Orders Closure of 66 'unsuitable' Nursing Colleges
Madhya Pradesh- Three months after the Madhya Pradesh High Court order on 'irregularities' in the affiliation of 66 nursing colleges in Madhya Pradesh, the state government has recently ordered the closure of these nursing colleges across the state.
According to IANS, the state Medical Education Department has issued a circular to the district administration asking them to comply with the order. Also, this action has been taken in accordance with the instructions of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav for strict action.
Apart from this, regarding the academic studies of the students enrolled in these 66 nursing colleges, the state government has made it clear that the studies of the students enrolled in these colleges will not be affected.
The Madhya Pradesh government has taken action to close down these 66 nursing colleges after the Madhya Pradesh High Court declared these colleges 'unsuitable'.
Meanwhile, the closure of these 66 nursing colleges in Madhya Pradesh has created stress among the students enrolled in these colleges. However, the state government has clarified that there will be no impact on the academic studies of the students enrolled in these colleges. It has been clarified through an official statement from the Department of Medical Education that "there will be no impact on the students of these colleges. Their examinations will be conducted”, quotes IANS.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that CM Mohan Yadav through his X (Formerly Twitter) announced that instructions have been given to take tough action in all cases of irregularities in nursing educational institutions. All officers and employees involved in irregularities will be sacked, he warned. Also, all the officers and employees involved in the irregularities would be dismissed and action would be taken against the then Registrar and Secretary of the Nursing Council.
The development came even as the nursing college scam case is being heard in the high court. The case is about large-scale irregularities and corruption in nursing colleges. The CBI has been carrying out the investigation.
The CBI had submitted its reports (charge sheet) on 308 nursing colleges, while the probe in another 300 nursing colleges was underway.
Meanwhile, two officials of Madhya Pradesh Police -- inspectors Sushil Kumar Majoka and Rishikant Asathe, who were earlier attached to the CBI -- were arrested two weeks ago. Their arrest on an alleged bribery charge has raised multiple questions about the authenticity of the probe.
The nursing college scam came to light in 2021 and it reached the Madhya Pradesh High Court in 2023.
