Bhopal: A renowned dermatologist and owner of a prominent Anti-Ageing Skin Clinic in the capital became the latest victim of a scam in which he allegedly lost Rs 10 lakh after being falsely promised a spot on the popular television reality show "Bigg Boss season 19".

The doctor, Abhinit Gupta, in his complaint to the police, alleged that a man who presented himself as an influential event director and an industry insider approached him, claiming that he could give him a backdoor entry to the reality show through unofficial channels.

According to a latest media report by India Today, the incident occurred in 2022 when a man identified as Karan Singh approached the doctor as the director of an event management business with headquarters in Andheri West, Mumbai. He claimed to have strong ties to TV industry insiders and therefore promised an entry on Bigg Boss 19 in return for Rs 10 lakh.

Believing Karan’s claims, Dr Gupta paid him Rs 10 lakh in hopes of becoming a contestant on the show. However, when the official Bigg Boss contestant list came out, the doctor noticed that his name was missing and not included in the official list. Following this, Dr Gupta became suspicious.

When he questioned Karan about it, the man reassured him that the entry was still possible through internal channels, which is a 'backdoor' process. But over time, the doctor received no results or updates regarding this. As a result, he began demanding his refund, but Karan stopped answering his calls and eventually switched off his phone completely.

Realising he had been duped, Dr Gupta approached the Chunabhatti police and filed a complaint in July 2023. Based on the complaint, the police registered an FIR against Karan Singh under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which deals with cheating.

Following this, the police have started investigating the case and are trying to trace the accused, who is still at large.
