NMC to start new PG medical college, plans expansion of Bytco infrastructure

Nashik: In a bid to start new a new postgraduate (PG) medical college and hospital, Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) is planning to augment its existing new Bytco hospital by adding two more storeys to the present three floor building.

The Nashik Municipal commissioner Kailas Jadhav has asked the officials to make the required financial provision in the budget for the financial year 2022-2023 for the construction of the college.

The planned PG Medical college would be affiliated to the Mumbai based autonomous educational institute- College of Physicians and Surgeons (CPS). At a meeting which was held recently, Jadhav instructed the health department officials to send a proposal to the CPS and the National Medical Council (NMC) for the approval of the same.

Commenting on the same, a civic official stated, ""Experts from CPS will inspect Bytco hospital for the proposed PG courses and suggest additional changes or measures needed to be undertaken by the civic body at the Bytco hospital. "

The NMC would get around 60 trainee doctors in various specializations for the newly planned postgraduate medical college.

The Corporation had earlier planned to begin the new PG medical college from this financial year, however they had to postpone due to the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. Now, with the situation slowly improving along with further relaxations of the COVID related restrictions, the civic body reinstated its plan for the proposed PG Medical college and Hospital.

The first COVID patient was registered by NMC on April 6 of last year. Following the increase in case load, it had converted two of its civic hospitals- Bytco and Zakir Hussain exclusively for COVID-19.

Times of India reports that there are around 750 beds including 300 oxygen beds in the Bytco hospital, which were fully occupied during the second wave of tBytco Hospital to be expanded to include PG medical colleghe pandemic in March and April this year. Presently there are around only 27 COVID patients in the hospital for treatment as the situation has been improving with a significant reduction in the COVID cases everyday.

Medical Dialogues team had reported last year the decision of the Nashik Municipal Corporation to provide an amount of Rs 12.5 lakh to the CPC office for 13 postgraduate medical courses at the Bytco hospital in Nashik road.
