Fake Odisha Medical council website issuing bogus MBBS, MD, MS registrations; Crime Branch moved
Odisha: Flagging a bogus website, the Odisha Council of Medical Registration (OCMR) has moved a letter with the Crime Branch, seeking action against people running a racket indulged in providing fake MBBS, MD, MS registration certificates to medical practitioners across the country.
The concern was brought to OCMR's knowledge after a doctor attached to a reputed medical institute sent a complaint to the Council asking to make it necessary changes in its website over some technical glitch the doctor had faced.
However, the OCMR's reply was shocking as it stated that the said website - https://www.ocmr.org.in/ was a fake one and OCMR has not yet developed facilities for online registration.

In further clarification, the Registrar of OCMR, Kamal Kant Das told the crime branch that OCMR had developed a website- 'www.ocmr.org' in the year 2004-05, which is currently defunct due to fund crunch and non-availability of human resource. It is now working with the NIC to develop a new website to provide online registration facilities to doctors.
OCMR was also informed about the existing fake website via a letter from the Deputy Registrar of Uttarakhand Medical Council (UMC) and was even sent a copy of the bogus MBBS registration certificate issued by the fake council. The UMC had sought action from his Odisha counterparts to bust the racket.
Taking note of the serious concern, registrar of OCMR, Kamal Kant Das has now written a letter to the Additional Director General of Police, Crime Branch asking it to register an FIR.
The fake site that mentions OCMR's office to be situated at Nandankana instead of its original office at Unit-V of the City.
As per a recent media report by the Odisha Post, sources claimed that many individuals have secured practice certificates from the fake council and are practicing in different states.
However, OCMR is the official body to grant statutory permission including registration certificates, NOC, and other testimonials necessary for practicing doctors. It also keeps a vigil on any malpractice in connection with medical practice in the state.
