Odisha: 130 Assistant Professors to be appointed in nine broad specialty disciplines

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has approved the appointment of 130 Assistant Professors of the Odisha Medical Education Service (OMES) Cadre in 9 Broad-Speciality disciplines.     

This approval was made on the basis of the recommendation of the Odisha Public Service Commission.

Earlier, Patnaik had appointments of 65 Assistant Professors in 7 Broad- Speciality disciplines in the month of September and October 2022

With this so far 195 Assistant professors in 16 broad specialties were appointed in the State during 2022.

The broad specialities are General Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Anatomy, TB & CD, Ophthalmology, Physiology, Transfusion Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatrics, Community Medicine, O & G, Pathology, Skin & VD, Anaesthesiology, Microbiology, FMT.

An official source said the appointment of Assistant professors will help in furthering the standards of Medical Education in the State and providing quality health care to the general public. 

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that the Odisha government will set up a private medical college and an Ayurvedic wellness centre soon. For this purpose, Health Minister Naba Kishore Das visited Jharsuguda to identify the land for the construction of the projects. Minister Naba, along with a high-level team of district officials and members of Art of Living visited Balijuri and Malimunda in Jharsuguda to verify the land.

With an Ayurvedic wellness centre and a medical college in one city, people will get quality education and health care altogether. The proposal was first approached by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar's Art of Living which was later approved by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The government has allotted 25-acre of land each for both projects.
