MBBS seats increased at JIPMER, Puducherry gets 37, Karaikal 12

Puducherry: The number of MBBS seats in Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) has been increased by 49 from the coming academic session.

According to the sources, the institute has secured the approval of the concerned authorities to increase the seat numbers from 200 to 249. Both the Puducherry campus and the Karaikal campus secured the approval of the authorities and have increased their seat number for the MBBS course under different categories.

Times of India reports that while the number of seats in the Puducherry campus has been increased from 150 to 187, the number of seats in the Karaikal campus has been increased from 50 to 62.
Under the 48 out of the 187 seats of the Puducherry campus and 16 out of the 62 seats of the Karaikal campus has been reserved for students belonging from UT. The revised seat structure includes a total of 57 unreserved seats, 13 EWS seats, 36 OBC seats, 19 SC seats, and 9 ST seats in the Puducherry campus. As far as JIPMER Karaikal is concerned, the new seat structure includes 20 unreserved seats, 4 EWS seats, 12 OBC seats, 6 SC seats, 3 ST seats, and one NRI seat.

This is for information to all the aspiring MBBS students that JIPMER MBBS Exam and Counselling to be held by Union Government Body from the year 2020. Though previously JIPMER used to hold their own entrance test for admission. 

From the current year, JIPMER's own MBBS entrance test has been discontinued and all admissions to the MBBS course at JIPMER will be made through the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). Hence, counseling for the candidates who have qualified NEET 2020 will be conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Delhi.
