The medical officer further claimed that a police officer attempted to apprehend the accused, but he turned too aggressive. She added that more police officers had to be eventually called in to arrest the misbehaving cop.

The accused has been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), Parminder Singh of Rajewal, posted at Kitchlu Nagar police post.

In a video that went viral on social media, the ASI could be heard threatening to shoot the staff members. He also threatened to report to the Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi about them and show the CM a video that he was making.

According to a media report in the Hindustan Times, the ASI was arrested after the hospital staff led a protest alleging police inaction against the accused cop.

The Sub-inspector Prakash Masih, SHO of Samrala police station stated that the ASI has been arrested under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (obstructing a public servant in discharge of public functions), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 427 (damages) of the Indian Penal Code. The police officials said that the ASI was not present for his duty on the day the incident took place, adds the daily.

Considering the incident, the medical staff at the hospital has asked for appropriate security arrangements in the hospital. They also demanded that strict action should be taken against the accused.
