MBBS student found dead before exam, police suspect suicide over academic pressure

Bharatpur: In a tragic incident, a third-year MBBS student at Jagannath Pahadia Medical College in Bharatpur allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling in his hostel room, just before his theory exam was about to start.

While the exact reason is not yet known, police suspect that the student took the extreme step due to exam pressure, as he was upset over his poor performance in a recent exam.

As per a latest news report by Hindustan, the student had an exam scheduled for Friday at 10 am. However, he ended his life before that, and his body was found on Friday morning, around 9 am, moments before the exam.

According to his college principal, he was a bright student, but he had not performed well in the recent theory exams and was under a lot of stress because of this.

The incident came to light when his classmates went to wake him up on Friday morning, but found the door locked from the inside. After calling out to him several times without any response, they broke open the door and found him hanging. He was immediately taken down and rushed to RBM Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

As per the police, the student had breakfast with his friends between 7 and 7:30 am. During that time, he asked one friend if they had a rope and told another to wake him up around 8:55 or 9 am for his final exam scheduled from 10 am to 1 pm. After going to his room, his friends later peeked through the window and saw him hanging.

Upon receiving information about the incident, the college administration and police arrived at the scene. The college administration has informed his family members about the incident. Meanwhile, the police have registered a case, and an investigation is underway. 

Sewar Police Station SHO Satish Bhardwaj said, "Initial investigation points to suicide. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has been called to examine the spot. We have locked the room for further investigation."

College Principal Dr Ajay Kukreja told Bhaskar, “*** (the student) might have taken this step because he was upset over his poor exam performance.”
