Coming Soon: Five new medical colleges in Telangana, govt sanctions funds

Hyderabad: In a major boost to the medical eduaction in Telangana, the state government has sanctioned a grant up to Rs 34.38 crore to start the construction work for the establishment of five new medical colleges in the state. The development will come in a brownfield manner with upgradation of various government hospitals to convert them into medical collleges 

The District Hospital, Sircilla will have another floor with the existing second floor which would be taken up for the Government Medical College. The construction is likely to amount Rs. 6.80 crore.

Similarly, work for another additional floor and a ward in old TB block in the district hospital in District Hospital, Kamareddy will also be initiated and it will be attached with Government Medical College, Kamareddy. it will cost around 4.53 crores. Government has already sanctioned the amount for the construction work, reports Telangana Today. 

To accommodate first-year students at the Government Medical College, Vikarabad, modifications would be made to the current structure of the TB & Chest Hospital, Ananthagiri. The projected cost of this work is Rs. 8 crore. Similar alterations would be made to the current building on the grounds of the District Collectorate, Khammam, and Government Medical, Khammam, at an estimated cost of Rs. 8.05 crore, to make room for first-year students.

Renovation of the seeds godown will be completed for the Government Medical College, Karimnagar to accept thr first-year students at an estimated cost of Rs. 7 crore. Last year Telangana State Government unveiled a new chapter in the field of medical education by opening 8 medical colleges at one go in the country. Chief Minister Sri K. Chandrashekar Rao kick-started a qualitative change in medical education by launching the commencement of classes for MBBS first year students online in 8 medical colleges.

Previously Medical Dialogues reported that these eight new medical colleges have been set up in Sangareddy, Mahabubabad, Manchiryala, Jagityala, Vanaparthi, Kothagudem, Nagarkurnool and Ramagundam. Established at a cost of Rs 4,080 crore, these new medical colleges will add altogether 1,200 additional MBBS seats in the seat matrix of Telangana.
