Dr T Subramanyeswara Rao elected President of Global Forum of Cancer Surgeons
Hyderabad: Senior cancer surgeon Dr T Subramanyeswara Rao from Hyderabad has been elected as the president of the Global Forum of Cancer Surgeons at the SSO Meeting in Phoenix, USA. The international body brings together cancer surgeons from across the world.
Dr Rao currently serves as the Medical Director at the Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute. With about 25 years of experience in surgical oncology, he has built a distinguished career in cancer care, education, and surgical innovation.
He holds an MBBS, an MS in General Surgery, and an MCh in Surgical Oncology, and trained at leading institutions including Osmania Medical College and the Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology. Over the years, he has served as Assistant Professor and later Professor of Surgical Oncology at MNJ Institute of Oncology and Regional Cancer Centre before becoming Director and Head of Surgical Oncology at Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Institute in 2010.
Dr Rao has been an examiner for MCh and DNB programmes, and his key interest lies in minimal access cancer surgery covering thoracic, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and gynaecological cancers. He has delivered several prestigious orations and conducted around 40 live surgical workshops across the country while mentoring surgical trainees.
He has always aimed to achieve the best patient outcomes comparable to developed countries, even in a resource-constrained setting. He has been instrumental in starting M. Ch Surgical Oncology at MNJ Institute of Oncology and Regional Cancer Centre, and DNB Speciality & DrNB Superspeciality programs at Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital.
Dr Rao has vast experience as a Proctor for various live operative workshops, conferences, and symposiums. As the Convener of the Academic Council of the Indian Association of Surgical Oncology (IASO), he is also instrumental in conducting teaching programs to disseminate expert knowledge without any geographical limitations. He reviews various journals in Surgical, Gynaecological, and Thoracic oncology and believes in patient-centric, compassionate cancer care, teaching & skill enhancement, constant learning, innovation, and collaborative research.

The Global Forum of Cancer Surgeons (GFCS) is an international consortium formed in March 2017 under the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) to address the global shortage of, and inequity in, cancer surgical care.
