BHU's dental college ranking withdrawn from NIRF 2025 list after double entry
Banaras- The Faculty of Dental Sciences at Banaras Hindu University has been withdrawn from the National Institutional Ranking Framework list (NIRF). This comes after the University had appeared twice in the NIRF 2025 list under the top dental colleges in India.
The NIRF India Rankings 2025 were published by the Ministry of Education (MoE) on September 4.
According to NIRF 2025, BHU is ranked 15th in the Dentistry category under the entry "Banaras Hindu University" and 18th in the entry "Faculty of Dental Sciences, Institute of Medical Sciences."
However, BHU has only one dental college, the Faculty of Dental Sciences, which is part of the Institute of Medical Sciences. However, both entries contained two different figures: one under the name of BHU and the other by the Faculty of Dental Sciences itself. While some of the figures in both entries were similar, most academic indicators, especially placement and salary figures, differed significantly.
According to the Careers 360 media news report, the BHU and Faculty of Dental Sciences’ NIRF scores, teaching and graduate outcome (GO) scores of the dental college were much higher compared to the university; BHU was allotted a much higher score under the research practice and perception categories – placing it at rank 15 and pushing the Faculty of Dental Sciences to rank 18.
On this, speaking to the Careers 360, a professor at the Faculty of Dental Sciences said on the condition of anonymity, “We had sent data directly to NIRF and then sent the same data to Banaras Hindu University, which again submitted. We had sent the same data to both and are not sure how the changes happened. We are also inquiring into this."
