Prayagraj: The Uttar Pradesh Government has recently granted permission for setting up of a nursing college at Moti Lal Nehru (MLN) Medical College's associated SRN Hospital.

In this regard, the state has sanctioned funds worth over Rs 12.30 crore for setting up of the college and construction of its building and Rs 2 crore has already been released for starting the construction work of the nursing college building.

Confirmation to this effect was given by the Moti Lal Nehru Medical College Principal, Dr SP Singh. Currently, MLN Medical College offers a Diploma degree in Nursing with a seating capacity of 56.

The upcoming nursing college will offer a new BSc (nursing) course. The approval comes with an objective to strengthen the paramedical services in the state and also providing the state with well-trained and qualified nurses.

The administrative and financial approval by the State government regarding the college was conveyed by the Under Secretary, SP Singh to the Director-General (medical education and training) of UP on December 1 in a missive. A copy of the same was sent to the Principal of MLN Medical College as well.

As per the missive, a release of funds worth Rs 2 crore has been sanctioned for starting the process of construction of the nursing college building. The aim is to be undertaken as per the norms set by the Indian Nursing Council (INC).

The letter, sent by Under Secretary, SP Singh, also mentioned the sanction of Rs 6.50 lakh for the external power connection necessary for the college building. It is likely to include an elevator, solar panels for additional back-up power, and a generator.

Speaking about the new nursing college to HindustanTimes, Principal Dr. SP Singh stated, "The state government has granted its permission for setting up of the college and starting a BSc (nursing) course that would prove to be a boon for motivated candidates wishing to make a career in the field of nursing".

He added, "The state government has sanctioned funds worth over Rs 12.30 crore for setting up of the college and construction of its building. Already Rs 2 crore has been released for starting the construction work of the nursing college building and we have also begun preparations for it."

After the implementation of the plan, the interested aspirants to learn to nurse would not have to move to other cities.
