Kolkata: The RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata has started its new emergency observation ward with 58 beds which are equipped with all life-saving equipment and medicine. Kolkata: The RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata has started its new emergency observation ward with 58 beds which are equipped with all life-saving equipment and medicine.  

As per a media report in the Times of India, the hospital earlier used to have only a 12 bedded emergency unit, which is one of the busiest medical colleges in India.

Presently, the newly opened emergency observation ward with facilities including a CPR room, hybrid CCU and HDU beds, ECG facilities, ventilators, Bipap machines, and defibrillator machines. The newly equipped ward is expected to provide better care to patients who require urgent medical attention. 

The RGKMCH principal Sandip Ghosh told TOI, "The aim is to provide the best possible care to emergency patients while putting them under observation. Along with this we also opened four emergency medicine counters in that unit itself so that patient's families do not have to run about."

Meanwhile, a LMO tank inauguration was done by hospital's Rogi Kalyan Samity chairman Sudipto Roy and Kolkata Municipal Corporation deputy mayor Atin Ghosh on Thursday. 

The Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported about a story where the West Bengal government is planning to bring 650 PG medical seats in different medical colleges in the state, out of which RG Kar Medical College and Hospital is one.

R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital is a government-owned medical college and hospital in Shyambazar, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It was under University of Calcutta from 1916 to 2003 and was affiliated with the West Bengal University of Health Sciences when it was established in 2003. This college is a co-educational institution that is recognized by the MCI and affiliated with the West Bengal University of Health Sciences.
