Andhra Pradesh mandates registration for AYUSH clinics and hospitals

Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has introduced a fresh set of measures aimed at bringing greater regulation and transparency in AYUSH healthcare services across the state. The initiative is intended to stop unauthorised medical practice and ensure that only qualified professionals provide healthcare services.
In a post on the social media platform 'X', Health Minister Shri Satya Kumar Yadav announced that registration and government approval will become compulsory for all AYUSH clinics and hospitals operating in the state. Under the proposed reforms, these institutions will be monitored through a regulatory structure similar to the one followed for allopathic healthcare establishments.
As part of the process, amendments have been introduced to the Andhra Pradesh Private Medical Care Establishment Act, 2022. The revised provisions are expected to be implemented after receiving formal approval from the Governor. Officials said the updated rules are designed to strengthen supervision of private AYUSH institutions and establish a more accountable healthcare system.
To prepare the framework for implementation, the state government has set up three separate committees - a Technical Committee, an Experts Committee, and a Stakeholders Committee. These bodies include senior administrators, healthcare professionals, and specialists from the AYUSH sector.
The committees have been assigned the task of reviewing regulatory systems followed in states such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. In addition to gathering public opinion, they will assess treatment protocols, administrative procedures, and regulatory requirements before preparing their final recommendations. Officials said the objective is to create a comprehensive policy framework that improves oversight and standardises AYUSH healthcare services throughout the state, reports The New Indian Express.

Officials said the state currently has over 1,400 private AYUSH clinics and nearly 40 hospitals. Under the revised framework, every institution will be required to obtain registration from the AYUSH Directorate before offering medical services.
Government data shows that Andhra Pradesh has more than 2,500 registered Ayurvedic doctors with undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications, nearly 4,600 practitioners in Homoeopathy, 788 Unani doctors, and 379 professionals associated with Naturopathy and Yoga.
The Health Minister said the coalition government, with support from the Centre, is focusing on expanding and modernising AYUSH services in the state. He added that plans are being developed to establish integrated hospitals and launch new government-run AYUSH medical colleges to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and medical education facilities.
