Staff shortage, poor sanitation disrupt services at Una Ayurvedic Hospital

Una: Patients visiting the District Ayurvedic Hospital in Una are reportedly facing significant inconvenience due to staff shortage and poor sanitation management, sparking concerns over the quality of healthcare services at the district-level facility.
Residents and patients have alleged that despite repeated complaints regarding administrative shortcomings and cleanliness issues, the overall situation inside the hospital has shown little improvement over time.
Poor maintenance of sanitation facilities has emerged as a major concern within the hospital premises. Several garbage bins installed across different sections of the hospital were reportedly found uncovered, creating unhygienic conditions for patients and attendants. With temperatures continuing to rise during the summer season, local residents fear that insufficient attention to cleanliness could increase health risks for those seeking treatment at the facility, reports Amar Ujala.
Patients and their family members have also highlighted delays in medical services, including long waiting hours and disruptions in routine procedures. According to visitors, the shortage of staff has affected the smooth functioning of the hospital and reduced the efficiency of patient care services.

The hospital is reportedly functioning with only one lab assistant, resulting in serious difficulties in conducting diagnostic tests on time. On Wednesday, laboratory services remained completely unavailable as the lone lab assistant was on leave. As a result, several patients who had arrived from distant areas for medical examinations and tests were unable to receive the required services and had to return disappointed.
A resident stated that an increasing number of people are now choosing Ayurvedic treatment methods, but the district’s main Ayurvedic hospital continues to struggle with insufficient manpower. Former councilor Mr. Navdeep Kashyap also stressed the need for appointing at least two lab assistants to ensure uninterrupted testing facilities and better patient care.
District Ayurvedic Officer Dr. Kiran Sharma acknowledged the staff shortage and said higher authorities had already been informed. She assured that necessary steps would be taken to improve sanitation and address deficiencies in hospital management at the earliest.
