UP approves five new AYUSH Medical Colleges and Hospitals

UP approves five AYUSH colleges
Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has approved the establishment of five new integrated AYUSH medical colleges and hospitals to strengthen traditional healthcare education and expand access to quality medical services across the state.
The new institutions will be set up in the divisions of Gonda, Mirzapur, Meerut, Agra and Basti as part of the Uttar Pradesh government’s efforts to strengthen AYUSH education and healthcare infrastructure. According to officials, land has already been identified for all five projects, paving the way for their development.
The colleges will offer education in various AYUSH disciplines, including Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy, while also incorporating elements of modern health sciences to provide a comprehensive learning environment.
Principal Secretary of the Department of AYUSH, Mr Ranjan Kumar, said the state government is committed to strengthening India’s traditional medical heritage while ensuring the availability of affordable, safe and effective healthcare services. He noted that the land selection process for all five integrated AYUSH colleges and hospitals has been completed, marking a significant step towards their establishment, according to Navbharat Times.
The proposed campuses will come up on approximately 14.82 acres in Kodar village of Gonda district, 13.83 acres in Akorhi village of Mirzapur district, 11 acres in Saidpur Husainpur Deelna village of Ghaziabad district for the Meerut division, 13.5 acres in Akbara village of Agra district, and 15 acres in Jogapur village of Basti district. Land in four of these locations has already been transferred to the AYUSH Department, while the transfer process for the Basti site is currently in its final stage.
AYUSH Director General and Mission Director Chaitra V said the architectural plans for the proposed government-integrated AYUSH colleges and hospitals are being prepared. She added that the institutions are envisioned not only as centres of higher education but also as hubs for research, innovation and academic excellence.
The colleges will promote research in Ayurvedic medicines, yoga therapy, lifestyle-based interventions and other traditional healthcare practices. Modern laboratories, teaching hospitals, research facilities and skill-development centres will be established on the campuses. Officials said the institutions will improve access to quality medical education for students across different regions, reducing the need to relocate to larger cities for professional training.
