NEET UG Counselling 2026: Puducherry Revises Merit List for JIPMER Internal Domicile Quota
Through a recent notice issued by the MCC, it is informed that the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services, Government of Puducherry, has issued an addendum to the merit list for the NEET UG counselling for the academic year 2026. The authority has added three more candidates to the list of Puducherry domicile students eligible to register for the JIPMER Puducherry Internal Domicile Quota through MCC counselling for the 2026-27 academic year.
The communication, issued in this regard, was sent by the Office of the Nodal Officer (Medical Education) to the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), Directorate General of Health Services, Government of India.

NEET PG 2026: Candidates Flag Incorrect Test City Details Sent Through SMS
The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has faced criticism after incorrect NEET-PG 2026 test-centre details were sent to candidates via SMS in the early hours of August 12. Several doctors and medical aspirants reported receiving allocations in distant states that did not match their preferences, while the official portal showed different, correct locations. Some candidates also struggled to access the portal because of heavy traffic. One applicant described the incident as a “pan-India pilgrimage” caused by random centre allocations, reports The Telegraph.
NBEMS later sent fresh SMSes confirming the correct test-centre details and attributed the earlier error to a technical glitch. However, the incident sparked widespread anger and memes online. One candidate joked that medical students were now being tested not only on clinical knowledge but also on their ability to “survive a heart attack brought on by panic.” Others questioned how candidates could be expected to arrange expensive travel and accommodation based on incorrect information. The episode has renewed concerns over the reliability of India’s medical examination systems.

Patient Left Paralysed Despite No Surgical Error, Consumer Court Orders Hospital, Doctors to Pay Rs 15 Lakh Compensation
The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has ordered a Punjab hospital and two doctors to pay ₹15 lakh compensation after a patient was left paralysed following a lumbar drain procedure, despite finding no surgical error. In its July 29, 2026 order, the Commission said the issue was the delayed response after the procedure. The patient developed pain and numbness in her thighs and legs from around 5:30 PM on September 23, 2011, but an MRI was conducted only at about 1 PM the next day, nearly 19.5 hours later. By then, her lower-limb motor power had fallen to 1/5, and she was diagnosed with myelitis, a serious complication of lumbar drain procedures.
The Commission found deficiencies in post-operative monitoring, timely neurological assessment and investigation of warning signs. It also noted inadequate documentation of overnight care and no clear explanation for the delayed MRI. The hospital and two doctors were held liable for failing to ensure that the attending team was adequately prepared to respond urgently to foreseeable complications. The hospital was directed to bear 90% of the ₹15 lakh compensation, while the treating surgeon and anaesthetist were each assigned 5% liability. The amount carries 6% annual interest, rising to 9% if unpaid after October 4, 2026, along with ₹25,000 in litigation costs, according to The Economic Times report.
