Mediterranean Diet Shows Superior Benefits for IBS: Study

A new randomized clinical trial from the United Kingdom, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine (2025), has shown that following a Mediterranean diet leads to greater improvement in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms compared to traditional dietary advice. The research, led by Megan Rossi and colleagues from King’s College London, suggests that the Mediterranean diet — which emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, olive oil, and moderate fish intake — could be more effective in reducing gut discomfort and improving overall quality of life for people living with IBS.
