Doctors should announce fee before treatment, not after: Government

New Delhi: A physician should display and announce his fees before rendering service and not after the treatment as per regulations, the government said.
“As per the Indian Medical Council (Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics) Regulations, 2002, a physician should clearly display his fees and other charges on the board of his chamber and/or the hospitals he is visiting.”
“Further, a physician should announce his fees before rendering service and not after the operation or treatment is under way and remuneration received for such services should be in the form and amount specifically announced to the patient at the time the service is rendered,” said Minister of State for Health Faggan Singh Kulaste in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.
Kulaste gave the seemingly tangential reply when asked whether the government is considering issuing directions to doctors to receive their fee in cashless mode in order to prevent the hoarding of black money.

Following the demonetisation move by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the narrative of a cashless economy and digital transactions have been pushed hard by this government.

And to referral hospital and AMBULANCE service. And contact information of the individual and their families. Perfect way make world class HEALTH CARE SYSTEM. ALL it requires is COMMITMENT and sincerity . Very easy …….. only Hurdle LACK OF desire and fear of doing wrong and getting caught. Dr Ramesh Vardhan.

  2. Not only declare it, have it deposited in advance

  3. How does one know before-hand the amount of time a patient will consume?
He may have a simple problem which does not require much time but he may have umpteen questions which he expects to be answered. Other possibility is that he may have a complex problem requiring lot of effort by the physician and time. and the third possibility is that he may not consume anytime- will it not be unfair to charge this patient the same as others?

Doctor fees is not according to the time spent with the patient. Fees is for specific services such as consultation, minor operations, major operations (by type of procedure) etc.

  5. right practice as many patients refuse to pay / ask for discount after the treatment, (especially emergency surgical procedure) is completed.

All such information , rules and regulations should be displayed in bold letters at the reception itself in Medical ESTABLISHMENT: like Hospitals , Scanning centers and other high end places. Information should be clear and in order . Like corporate Hospital with list of services, and Details of professional involved and duration stay cost of the procedure .The minimum and maximum amount to be SPENT. Is there any package deal inclusive of A To Z . Most of these Hospitals charge more than lakh (100000), just for a C section. And soon with one or the other excuse they keep the newborn in the so called Neonatal ICU and Bill likely to increase to MANY Folds. These Hospitals have Immunity and protection , unlike the Smaller Hospitals, Nursing Homes and Pvt clinics managed by our own Doctors. The Insurance companies also supports these corporate Hospitals. And put hundred questions to smaller set ups managed By the Doctors. STOP using word Doctors unnecessarily for wrong reasons and specially about consultation fee, RS 100 to 1000, Is QUITE nominal . It is not the visible things which are important ,the invisible or untold things ie unnecessary scans, stents, ABG, and injections like solomedrol, Instea, and many more with out much use or evidence. Dumping patients into Intensive care units with different Titles/Names starting from the new BORN to the Over 90 age group with compromised Physiology. . 3 PROMOTING some funny Fancy procedures like Increase in Height, Change of Gender, Breast augments, Joint replacement surgerieS,Scopies, et C.Instead they can use their position in PREVENTIVE Aspects and overall improvement of health taking up their social responsibility .
