OOPS: Doctor shops for Rs 399 via credit card, gets duped of Rs 2.62 lakh

New Delhi: A case of cyber-crime has been registered on the basis of a complaint filed by a Jodhpur based doctor who has been duped of Rs 2.62 lakh while shopping a laundry bag worth Rs 399 via his credit card on a website.

According to a media report, the doctor fell into the trap of cyber frauds when he went to a shopping site last year in September.

The doctor received a call from an executive from Classic Enterprise in Delhi. She asked him to buy a few products through the said website to get assured gift. She talked about 'deal of the day scheme' under which he could win free gifts like LED TV, laptop, iPhone etc if he made a purchase from the website.

Convinced with the deal, the doctor bought a laundry bag worth Rs 399 from the shopping website where he had used his credit card for the payment.

Once again, the doctor was approached from the website calling executive to pay Rs 5,580 as GST as he has struck a gift of a laptop worth Rs 72,000.

The Deputy Commissioner of police, cyber cell, informed the TOI, "After four days, the doctor got a call to pay Rs 5,580 as GST as he has struck a gift of a laptop worth Rs 72,000. The doctor paid the amount from his credit card."

The calls to claim free gifts did not stop here. The tricksters laid a plot and bluffed a total of Rs 2.62 lakh under the pretext of claiming his gifts under different terms and conditions.

Realizing that he was being duped, the doctor then served a notice to Classic Enterprise. After getting no reply from the company, he moved the police filing a complaint against the company.

"The doctor then approached a lawyer and served a notice to Classic Enterprise but till date got no reply from the company. Now, the doctor has approached us and we are probing the case."

The matter is under investigation.
