Appeals for Broad Speciality PG medical courses Prioritized, Super Speciality Courses to be Considered next month: NMC tells institutes
New Delhi: Through a recent notice, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has clarified that it would prioritize appeals concerning the Medical Assessment and Rating Board's (MARB) decision of starting or increasing postgraduate courses first and take up the appeals on super speciality courses later.
The decision to prioritize the appeals for Broad Speciality PG courses was taken considering the "time-sensitive" nature of the NEET PG Counselling process. On the other hand, NMC pointed out that the schedule for the super specialty PG course is scheduled later and announced that appeals on PG (SS) courses would be considered in August, 2024.
Issuing a notice in this regard on 3rd July 2024, NMC mentioned, "The Commission is currently handling multiple appeals concerning MARB's decision on starting or increasing seats in postgraduate (PG) courses."
NMC announced its decision to prioritize the appeals on broad specialty PG courses first and added, "Given the time-sensitive nature of the NEET PG counselling process, the Commission has decided to prioritize appeals for Broad Specialty PG courses first."

Referring to the Super Speciality PG courses, it further mentioned, "Since Super Specialty PG course counselling is scheduled later, the appeals on PG(SS) from different colleges will be taken up later (in the month August, 2024)."
"However, colleges who intend to appeal against the order of the MARB are requested to submit their appeals within the time frame. 3. The results of the appeals heard already, if any, and the results of the hearings that we start for the PG (SS) will be communicated together. This issues with the approval of competent authority," added the Commission.
NEET-PG 2024 was earlier scheduled to be held on 23rd June 2024. However, at the last minute, the Union Health Ministry postponed the exam citing precautionary measures. The decision was taken in the backdrop of allegations of paper leak in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) examination and the cancellation of the UGC-NET exam. Following the sudden postponement, the National Board of Examinations (NBE) still has no notified about a new date for the NEET PG 2024 exam.
Meanwhile, there is still no news about when the NEET-SS 2024 exam will be conducted. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported about a minutes of the meeting dated 23.02.2024 of the Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) of NMC. In the concerned document, it was mentioned that the NEET SS 2024 exam may not be conducted in the current year.
Regarding the NEET SS 2024 exam date, the minutes of the meeting stated, "Regarding NEET SS-2024, it was decided that as admissions for academic year 2021 for MD/MS and DNB courses were held only a January to May 2022, therefore, NEET SS-2024 may not be conducted in the current year. However exact date of counselling NEET SS- 2024 in the year 2025 will be decided later."
