New Delhi: Amid ongoing preparations for the NEET UG 2026 re-examination on June 21, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed all medical colleges and institutes across the country to remain vigilant and advised them not to grant leave to students on June 20 and 21, except in exceptional circumstances with proper justification.

Issuing a public notice on June 18, the NMC instructed all medical colleges and institutes under its purview to strictly comply with the directions issued by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, regarding the conduct of the NEET-UG re-examination.

The Commission noted that in the past, some medical students were found to be involved in activities that could compromise the sanctity and integrity of the examination process. Therefore, colleges have been asked to remain vigilant and ensure that students are sensitized against any involvement in activities prejudicial to the conduct of the examination.

The NMC further advised medical colleges not to grant leave to students on June 20 and June 21, except in exceptional circumstances with proper justification.

"A copy of D. O. letter No. F - 24 / 1 / 2025 - NTA dated 13th June, 2026 from Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education) in respect of conduct of NEET (UG) Re-examination 2026, scheduled to be held on 21st June, 2026, is attached herewith for strict compliance by all Medical Colleges/ Institutes. In the past, instances have come to notice where some students of medical colleges were found to be involved in activities that could compromise the sanctity and integrity of the examination process. In view of this, and as a matter of general deterrence, all the medical colleges are hereby directed to remain vigilant and ensure that students are sensitized against any involvement in activities prejudicial to the conduct of the examination. Further, all the medical colleges are advised not to grant leave to students on 20th June and 21st June, 2026, except in exceptional circumstances with due justification. This measure is intended as a preventive step to discourage any potential misuse and to support the fair conduct of the examination," mentioned the notice issued by NMC Secretary Dr Raghav Langer

The Apex Medical Commission's directions came after the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, wrote to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare seeking support for the smooth and fair conduct of the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination.

In the letter dated June 13, 2026, Department of Higher Education Secretary Dr Vineet Joshi informed the Health Ministry that the NEET-UG 2026 examination held on May 3 had been cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances and that the re-examination would be conducted on June 21, 2026.

Referring to past instances where some medical college students were allegedly found involved in activities that could compromise the sanctity and integrity of examinations, the Ministry requested that suitable instructions be issued to all medical colleges to remain vigilant and sensitize students against participating in any activity that could adversely affect the conduct of the examination.

The Department also requested that medical colleges be advised not to grant leave to students on June 20 and 21, except in exceptional circumstances with proper justification. According to the letter, the measure was intended to act as a preventive step to discourage any potential misuse and help ensure the fair conduct of the examination.
