NMC approves 171 additional PG medical seats after appeals, Details

New Delhi: The National Medical Commission has approved an additional 171 postgraduate seats after the medical colleges appealed against the decision of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB).
Among these 171 PG medical seats, 24 seats have been approved by the Appeal Committee. Further, the Appeal Committee has approved 2 seats each in MD Anatomy, MD Community Medicine, 8 seats in MD Dermatology, Venerology and Leprosy, 3 seats in MD Emergency Medicine, 30 seats in MD General Medicine, 3 seats in MD ImmunoHaematology & Blood Transfusion, 2 seats in MD Microbiology, 17 seats in MD Paediatrics, 4 seats in MD Pathology, 2 seats in MD Pharmacology, 2 seats in MD Physiology, 1 seat in MD Psychiatry, 2 seats in MD Respiratory Medicine, 30 sests in MD Radio-Diagnosis, 1 seat in MD Sports Medicine, 17 seats in MS General Surgery, 14 seats in MS Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 3 seats in MS Ophthalmology, and 4 seats in MS Orthopaedics. Therefore, 171 new PG medical seats have been added to the seat matrix of 27 medical colleges after the approval of the appeal committee.

Notifying about these additional seats, the Director of PG MARB, Sukh Lal Meena mentioned in a notice dated 31.12.2025, "In reference to the appeals preferred by Medical Colleges under Section 28(5) of the NMC Act, 2019 against the decisions of the MARB for the seats granted during Academic Year 2025–26, the matter was examined by the First Appeal Committee. The list of seats granted by the First Appeal Committee is attached herewith for the information of all stakeholders."
"The LOPs for these sanctioned PG seats for AY 2025-26 will be issued shortly. The counselling authorities need not wait for the LOPs from institutions to include them in the counselling process. This list uploaded on the website shall be considered as valid document for counselling process," it further added.
NMC Secretary wrote to the heads of all medical institutes under NMC on 31.12.2025, and referring to the PG MARB's notice, it added, "Kind reference is invited to the Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) Public Notice of even number dated 31-12-2025 on the subject mentioned above being self-explanatory inter-alia duly enclosing the list of seats granted during Academic Year 2025–26 by the First Appeal Committee which shall be considered as valid document for counseling process. The counselling authorities need not wait for the LOPs from institutions to include them in the counselling process. The LOPs for these sanctioned PG seats for AY 2025-26 will, however, be issued shortly."
"Accordingly, all concerned are requested to take note of the same for necessary action on their part," the communication further added.
