NMC grants 3-week extension to update faculty National, state medical registration numbers on AEBAS portal, warns of attendance rejection

New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a reminder to medical colleges/institutes regarding the requirement of uploading the National or State Medical Register numbers of medical college faculty on the AEBAS portal.
On October 5, 2026, the Apex Medical Commission issued an Office Memorandum in this regard after noting that some of the medical institutes have still not uploaded these details despite the previous directions issued in September. In some of the cases, the Nodal Officers have updated erroneous NMR/SMR details on the portal, the Commission said.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that on September 3, 2026, NMC directed all medical colleges and institutions to mandatorily update the National Medical Register (NMR)/ State Medical Register (SMR) numbers of their medical faculty on the Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS) portal within one month. The Commission had issued this direction after it observed that the Nodal Officers across various medical colleges have, in many instances, left the NMR / SMR Number field blank in respect of faculty members during their initial registration on the AEBAS portal.
Referring to the provisions under UG/PG Minimum Standard Requirements (MSR), and MARB Regulations which mandate a periodic, transparent, and digitally verified assessment of teaching staff across all medical institutions, NMC had demanded strict compliance with the same and directed the medical colleges/institutes to immediately review and update the NMR/SMR No. in the profile details of all faculty members and Junior Residents (JRs)/Senior Residents (SRs)/Tutor/Demonstrator of their respective Colleges on the NMC AEBAS portal.
NMC had warned of non-compliance, stating that failure to update this information within the stipulated deadline will result in the blocking and automatic rejection of daily attendance vide the NMC system. This may adversely impact the compliance status of the Medical College during NMC assessments and inspections, the Commission had warned.
Once again, NMC has reiterated these directions. In an Office Memorandum dated 05.10.2026, the Commission referred to the OM dated 03.09.2026 and added, "Kind attention is invited to the Office Memorandum (OM) of even number dated 03 September 2026, whereby all medical colleges and institutions under the National Medical Commission (NMC) were directed to update the NMR/SMR No. in profile details of all Medical Faculty Members, Junior Residents (JRs), Senior Residents (SRs), Tutors, and Demonstrators on the NMC AEBAS portal within one month of the notice."
"It has been noted that required action by Nodal Officers of some Medical Colleges/ Institutions, of updation of the NMR/SMR No. are still pending. Further, some Nodal Officers have updated erroneous NMR/SMR details on the portal. In view of the above and to provide an opportunity to Medical Colleges/ Institutions, it has been decided to grant additional three (03) weeks to complete the requisite details updates," NMC said.
Asking the heads of the medical colleges to ensure compliance with the NMC directive, the Commission further mentioned, "It is hereby directed that Dean/Principal/Directors of all Medical Colleges/Institutions will ensure timely updation of NMR/SMR No. in profile details of all Medical Faculty Members & JR/SR/Tutor/Demonstrator of their respective Colleges on NMC AEBAS portal (as mentioned vide above referred OM). Further, non updation or incorrect entry of NMR/SMR numbers will result in the automated blocking and rejection of daily attendance by the system."
For any technical assistance, Nodal Officers may contact the official NMC helpdesk, NMC notice read.
