Jammu and Kashmir: PM Modi will soon lay foundation of AIIMS, says Governor Satya Pal
Jammu: In a recently held press conference at Jammu and Kashmir, Governor Satya Pal Malik said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will soon lay the foundation of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Jammu region.
While addressing the press conference in Jammu, Governor Malik shared with media the plan of setting up AIIMS near Vijaypur in Samba district, stated that “PM will soon come to the state and lay the foundation of AIIMS."
In 2015, the centre sanctioned an AIIMS for Jammu following agitation by a union of 70 civil society groups under the banner of AIIMS coordination committee. However, the works on the prestigious project could not start as major portions of the identified land were occupied by nomadic families.
The Medical Dialogues had in September 2018 reported that authorities of Samba district handed over the encumbrance-free 244-acre land which is located near the Jammu-Pathankot highway in Vijaypur to the health and medical education department for setting up AIIMS.
A total of 1,954 kanals and 6 marlas of land had been acquired for establishment of AIIMS. Of this, 747 kanals of land is on the northern side — left the side of Jammu-Pathankot highway — and 1,207 kanals and 6 marlas on the southern side — right side of the highway.

Finally, making progress on the front, the foundation stone of AIIMS will be laid
To fill up huge vacancies of doctors and faculty positions in the upcoming branches of AIIMS, the Union Health Ministry formulated a new protocol to induct all the institute’s postgraduates during placement. The minister pointed out that as per the earlier faculty rules, every faculty appointment had to ratified by the general body (GB) of each AIIMS-like institution. Since the general body would meet once in every six months, the organizations would lose qualified practitioners to the private sector.
