Kolkata: 5 accused who assaulted NRS junior doctor get interim bail
During hearing the government counsels demanded another jail custody term for the five accused with a plea that more arrest was needed in the case. But the judge, after hearing the petitioners, said that since not much progress was made in the case in the past three weeks the accused have been given bail.
Kolkata:Â Five people, accused of assaulting two NRS Medical College and Hospital's junior doctors in the night of June 10, have been given interim bail by a local court after the judge opined that the case related to offence did not progress much.
The judge of the Sealdah court, after hearing arguments and counter-arguments from the prosecution and defendants, granted interim bail to five accused with a bond of Rs 2000 each.
The accused Md Snewaj, Adil Hadun, Adil Shekh, Md Yusuf and Md Badal have been given interim bail by the court, exactly 20 days after they allegedly beat up two medics in the hospital premises after an 85-year-old patient died of cardiac arrest in the hospital.
The Medical Dialogues Team had earlier reported that following the death of a 75-year-old patient at the institute, a patient’s family and their supporting mob brutally attacked the treating doctors accusing them of medical negligence. the mob of around 150 persons arrived at the medical facility on bikes armed with bricks, sticks and glass shards and charged against the doctors and dragged the hapless junior doctors to the main gate and assaulted them heinously. Then the mob allegedly started raining bricks at the doctors. The attack dented the skull of junior doctor, Paribaha Mukherjee, almost taking his life.

He had been operated upon at a private hospital ( Calcutta Neuroscience). Mukherjee was released from the hospital, but he needed to go for another surgery to fill the cavity in his skull.
