Meghalaya Health Minister meets DoNER Minister; seeks assistance to improve health Infrastructure
Expressing his sincerest gratitude to Dr Singh for sanction of balance funds for the DAE – Shillong Civil Hospital Cancer Wing, the Health Minister said it is a tremendous gift and boon to the people of Meghalaya.
Shillong, Aug 11 ,Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare Minister, Alexander Laloo Hek on Saturday met Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Dr. Jitendra Singh and sought central assistance relating to infrastructure in the State.
At the meeting, Hek thanked the union minister of state for his support through the ministry of DoNER and Personnel, Department of Atomic Energy and Prime Minister’s Office.
Expressing his sincerest gratitude to Dr Singh for sanction of balance funds for the DAE – Shillong Civil Hospital Cancer Wing, the Health Minister said it is a tremendous gift and boon to the people of Meghalaya.

Hek also highlighted on the government’s need to have a hospital waste management and disposal system with focus on waste segregation and safe disposal especially for biomedical waste as per National Green Tribunal norms.
He said the central support for a project shall alleviate the urban waste management problems of the State in general and Shillong in particular was sought.
Stating that Shillong Golf Course is a historical landmark that speaks volumes about the rich history of the State associated with the sport, Hek requested if Shillong Golf Course could be preserved, protected and nurtured for the National Games in 2022.
There was also discussion on need for a state of the art diagnostic centre in Shillong and Tura.
Hek said Rs 20 crores have been sanctioned for high-end equipment for the state of the art diagnostic centre in Shillong under NESIDS scheme of Ministry of DoNER in 2018-19.
Hek solicited funds for the supporting civil infrastructure for it amounting to an estimated Rs 6.5 crores.
A similar state of the art diagnostic centre was proposed for Tura which is the constituency of chief minister of Meghalaya in NESIDS scheme of the current year.
Other projects discussed were setting up of a botanical garden and children’s park which will enhance the tourism potential of the city of Shillong which would also serve as an added attraction for the upcoming National Games in the State.

A request to union minister was especially made for an indoor stadium and swimming pool in Pynthorumkhrah in Shillong which will be the focal point of attention again for the National Games.Singh has assured that he would look into the requests made in the letter submitted.
