3,656 MS Orthopaedics seats, 551 in Karnataka: NMC seat matrix 2026

New Delhi: A total of 3,656 MS Orthopaedics seats are available across medical colleges in India for the academic year 2026-27, according to the latest postgraduate medical seat matrix released by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
The seat matrix provides the state-wise distribution of seats available in the speciality. As per the list, Karnataka has the highest number of MS Orthopaedics seats with 551 seats, followed by Maharashtra with 445 seats and Tamil Nadu with 355 seats.
Medical Dialogues earlier reported that the NMC released a seat matrix on September 29 showing a total of 63,177 MD, MS, Diploma, DM and MCh medical seats for the academic year 2026-27. However, the NMC clarified that the latest seat matrix does not include seats related to applications received for an increase in the intake of existing PG courses or for the commencement of new PG courses for the academic year 2026-27.
According to the latest seat matrix, Uttar Pradesh has 346 seats, Telangana has 230 seats, Gujarat has 226 seats, Rajasthan has 210 seats, Madhya Pradesh has 171 seats, and Kerala has 125 seats.
West Bengal has 102 M.S. Orthopaedics seats, Bihar has 84 seats, Odisha has 81 seats, Delhi has 71 seats, Puducherry has 62 seats, Haryana has 59 seats, Punjab has 53 seats, and Assam has 44 seats.
Further, Chhattisgarh has 40 seats, Jammu & Kashmir has 38 seats, Uttarakhand has 27 seats, Himachal Pradesh has 25 seats, Jharkhand has 12 seats, Manipur has 11 seats, Chandigarh has 9 seats, Tripura has 5 seats, Dadra and Nagar Haveli has 4 seats, Goa has 3 seats, Sikkim has 3 seats and Meghalaya has 2 seats.
Meanwhile, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram have no M.S. Orthopaedics seats listed in the latest seat matrix.
