AIIMS Rajkot MBBS student suicide: Probe continues 2 weeks on amid harassment allegations

dead
Rajkot: More than 2 weeks after the suicide of a final year MBBS student from AIIMS Rajkot, the police are still investigating the case from multiple angles.
The student, a native of Phalsund village in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district, died by suicide on March 14, 2026, after allegedly jumping in front of a train in Rajkot. 2 weeks after the incident, the case remains under investigation.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that a 25-year-old MBBS medico at AIIMS Rajkot died by suicide after allegedly being assaulted and harassed by classmates, leaving behind a 17-page note.

Based on a complaint by his father, police arrested five accused under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, though they were allowed to appear for the upcoming final-year MBBS exams under police security.
He was struck by a train, and his laptop, mobile phones, medical files and ID card were found near the tracks along with a 17-page note that accused his classmates of assaulting him.
In the note, he mentioned that the accused students allegedly assaulted him inside a hostel room and recorded his video and audio. He mentioned that his classmates had been repeatedly harassing him since January this year, over suspicion regarding his relationship with a girl.
Speaking to Dainik Bhaskar, his father said, "My son was not so weak, but he was tortured so much that he took this step." The family has alleged that he faced physical assault, mental harassment, and humiliation.
According to the family, after the January incident, he stayed at home in the village for about one and a half months. They said that they had even offered him to take a leave from his studies or pursue criminal action against the students. However, he did not respond clearly to these suggestions.
On March 11 to 12, he told his family that he had to return to Rajkot for exams and assured them that everything was fine. He reached Rajkot on March 13. During his last conversation, he said he would go to a friend’s house and then watch a movie, and would not return to the hostel. Later, his phone was switched off. The next morning, when the family tried to reach him, their calls went unanswered.
With serious allegations in the suicide note and claims made by the family, the case is currently under investigation.
