Around 80 percent of GSVM Medical College MBBS students under Stress and Anxiety, Reveals Medical Screening
Kanpur: Around 80 percent first year MBBS students belonging to GSVM Medical College are under immense stress and the level of anxiety is quite high for 70 percent of those students.
Such information has come to the light following a medical camp organized in Boys Hostel (BH)-5 under the banner of Arogya Committee of Medivision, Kanpur Province and Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial (GSVM) Medical College.
In this first ever health and medical test camp, around 120 students of new batch Para-2 of MBBS first year got screened. A team of five doctors from five departments including medicine, psychiatry, dentistry, orthopedics screened these students.
With such a discovery, the Principal of GSVM Medical College, Dr. Sanjay Kala has decided to ensure that these students undergo counselling.
As per the latest media report by Amar Ujala, among the 120 students who were screened under the programme, 65 have been found to be under stress. 15 students are suffering from high blood pressure, while blood sugar is high in three students. Besides, the three students have been found with irregular heartbeats, while the mental health of 10 students is worse.
While commenting on the matter, the Principal of the medical college, Dr. Kala informed the daily that the reason for such stress and anxiety is the factor that these students are worried about separation from their families, as they have to stay away from home. According to Dr. Kala, such a condition lasts for a year or two. Also, the new environment and the pressure of studies are contributing to the situation, he opined.
Considering the situation, Dr. Seema Dwivedi has been appointed as the nodal officer, who will be in charge of the mental, physical and spiritual health of the medicos. Apart from this, the students will also get to experience yoga, pranayama, sports.
